Integrity
A leader with integrity builds trust, a leader with trust builds positive influence, a leader with positive influence changes the world for the
better.
Cheating. Lying. Hiding the truth. Compromising your values. No matter how much you win, no matter how well you perform, no matter how hard you work—you can lose all of your positive influence by not being a person of integrity.
Integrity means a lot of things—a lot of important things.Integrity means telling the truth. Integrity means you don’t say one thing and do another. Integrity means doing what is right and fair and honest—even when no one is looking. Integrity means people can trust that theperson you show them is the person that you really are. Integrity means that you take seriously being a person of honor and respect.
Pete Rose. No doubt one of the top three hitters in the history of baseball. “Charlie Hustle”—no one played harder than Pete Rose. Total respect from the players and the fans and the coaches and the sports writers. Then he cheated and lied and pretended and . . . now he is a symbol of all the things that are wrong in professional sports.
Every day you are building your reputation. Every day you are forming your character. Every day you will be tempted to take a shortcut—tell a little lie, cheat just enough to get what you want, do something when no one is looking that you know is wrong. And every day—with each choice you make—you are deciding who you will be. Will you be a person of integrity who will build trust and influence or a person like Pete Rose who disappoints and discourages others?
Make the choice—today—to build your influence for tomorrow. Make the choice to be a person of integrity.
A leader with integrity builds trust, a leader with trust builds positive influence, a leader with positive influence changes the world for the better.
Put away falsehood . . . speak the truth . . . do not steal . . do honest work . . . speak only what is good . . . do not be bitter and angry and speak evil of others . . . be
kind and forgiving. Ephesians 4:25‐32
