Change your focus, change your life
December18: Derrick Rose misses a late free throw that leads to a Chicago Bulls 100‐99 loss to the visiting LA Clippers.
February 2: The Bulls travel to LA to play the Clippers. Rose pours in 32 points. Bulls win, 106‐88.
March 2: Rose describes his road game against the Atlanta Hawks as one filled with “turnovers” and “bad decisions”. The Bulls lose 83‐80.
March 22: The Bulls return to Atlanta. Rose plays only 29 minutes—that is all the Bulls need. He scores 30 points and dishes 10 assists to power the Bulls to a 114‐81 blowout of the Hawks. After the March 22 game, Rose said: “I tried to stay focused.”
If Derrick Rose plays poorly in a loss, the next time he faces that same opponent, he completely dominates them. Rose refocuses his attention, his effort, his mind and his body. With his great ability, a change of focus is all that is needed to change losing games into winning games.
Change your focus, change your life. Every person fails at some point. Whether
with grades or friends or sports or parents or with God, every person
finds themselves thinking, “This is not where I want to be.” At that point you can
either accept defeat or you can refocus your attention, effort, mind and body. God made
you in such a powerful way that you will move in the direction of your focus. So, change your focus, change your life.
Joshua, the leader of Israel after the death of Moses, gathered the leaders of his nation together to challenge their focus: “Choose today—right now—whom you will serve . . . as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
